MANILA — Four of the country’s best wushu artists flew to China on Wednesday to compete in the 8th Sanda World Cup, a tournament exclusive for the top four fighters in each weight category.
Divine Wally, Arnel Mandal, Francisco Solis and Hergie Bacyadan have been invited to join the four-day competition starting on Thursday in Xian City, the capital of Shaanxi province in central-northwest China.
Wally and Mandal are eyeing to duplicate their gold medal performances in the 13th World Wushu Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia last year.
Solis (60kgs) and Bacyadan (65kg)hope to improve on their bronze finishes in the same tournament.
Wally, 19, was the country’s lone gold winner in the 9th Asian Wushu Championships held in Chinese Taipei last September. Mandal won a silver while Bacyadan had a bronze.
