MANILA — Filipina mountain biker Ariana Dormitorio is ready for her participation in the second leg of the 2017 Asia Mountain Bike Series in Tambunan, Sabah, Malaysia.
The 21-year-old cyclist from Iloilo City has been training extensively since winning the first leg of the Series in Yawatahama, Japan last April.
Dormitorio is scheduled to leave for Sabah on Wednesday. The competition will be from August 5 and 6.
The Filipina rider is expecting another challenge race in the Sabah leg which will have more entries. Among her tough rivals are from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan.
The Asia Mountain Bike Series is among the tournaments sanctioned by the International Cycling Union (UCI) which aims to provide a platform for Asian riders to get UCI points to qualify for the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
Dormitorio, who is being coached by her father Donjie, is also set to join the Under-23 World Championships in Cairns, Australia in September.
Dormitorio is currently No. 489 in the world with 51 points. PNA-northboundasia.com
