TUGUEGARAO CITY — The Provincial Natural Resources and Environment Office (PENRO) is set to recognize schools that are the best implementors of the Ecological solid Waste Management law on Nov. 12, at the Red Eagle Gym. Cagayan State University (CSU) in Carig Campus here.
PENRO Environmental development specialist Apolinaria Geron, on Wednesday said the program aims to give due recognition to the schools that are seriously implementing the provisions of the R.A. 9003 to educate schoolchildren to practice solid waste management in their respective houses.
“We institutionalize this to encourage school officials to always practice solid waste management and maintain their programs that will not only beautify the school premises but also to ensure cleanliness, orderliness of the schools,” Geron added.
She said the program also gauge school’s innovative practices, especially in transforming waste materials into other useful items.
The best practices of the school contenders will be given due recognition.
There are four categories in the award system to include best implementors in the National High School category, technical-vocational school, non-central elementary and central elementary schools, she said.
Schools that will receive three consecutive first place awards will be given ‘Hall of Fame’ award but they also need to maintain their standards for another three years to be able to receive a ‘Green Banner’ award.
After receiving the green banner,, they should maintain and level up their solid waste management related programs for another three years to be able to snatch the “Seal of EXcellence on Ecological sold waste Management” highest award. PNA
