BACOLOD CITY — Operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Negros Island Region (PDEA-NIR) seized PhP500,000 worth of marijuana leaves in a buy-bust late Wednesday at the southbound terminal in this city.
PDEA-NIR Officer-in-Charge Roselyn Borja said Thursday the estimated value was based on the laboratory test on the 10 kilos of marijuana pegged at PhP50 per gram.
The illegal drug supply was believed to have come from Luzon.
The suspect was identified as Eduardo Simons, 55, of Barangay Villamonte, who is detained at Police Station 6. He was also tested positive for illegal drug use.
Simons was charged for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
In December last year, an estimated PhP110,000 worth of marijuana leaves were also seized from two Bacolod residents at the port of Dumangas in Iloilo.
The suspects were about to board a roll-on, roll-off vessel bound for Bacolod when the K9 team with their sniffing dogs detected illegal drugs from their baggages. PNA-northboundasia.com
