LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The province of Pangasinan is set to make history when it will conduct night job market, yet the first of its kind in the country, this coming Labor Day on May 1.
Dubbed as the 1st Pangasinan Night Job Market, the event will gather employers and would-be employees in one venue or ‘market’ on May 1, 2016 at the Pangasinan Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO) Compound, Capitol Complex here.
Alex Ferrer, Pangasinan PESO chief, said the job market is “a special jobs fair because it will be held at night, unlike a regular jobs fair that is normally held at daytime.”
It is in response to the problem encountered by jobseekers and career-changers who were not able to avail of past regular jobs fairs because of their daytime commitments, Ferrer said.
“There was a time when a firm needing construction workers went here in province and though the job opportunity was extensively announced, jobseekers failed to attend the jobs fair as they would be losing their one-day salary,” he noted.
The night job market, to be conducted from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight, in celebration of Labor Day and ” Pista’y Dayat” (Sea Festival), is in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 1, the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Pangasinan Chapter, and the Pangasinan Association of Private Technical-Vocational Institutions, Inc. (PAPTVI).
Ferrer said a total of 15 companies for local employment and five overseas placement agencies will grace the event.
Job opportunities in this jobs fair will be for nurses, doctors, and other health/medical personnel; hotel and restaurant personnel; mall/department store/ sales staff; construction and industrial skilled and semi-skilled workers; factory workers; administrative/office staff; and farm and agricultural workers.
Gemma Mendoza, PAPTVI president, vowed their graduates will be attending the job market.
Aside from the night job market, the DOLE Region 1 disclosed that simultaneous day jobs fairs in Pangasinan- at Robinson’s Mall in Calasiao and SM City Rosales- will be held on Labor Day.
Meanwhile, Ferrer disclosed that they are also eyeing to put up a Pangasinan Competitiveness Council which would conduct comprehensive manpower development programs among Pangasinan jobseekers.
“We would like to build the reputation for being the most sought-after manpower in the whole country,” he said. PNA/northboundasia.com
