LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded about 48% decrease in the number of firecracker incidents during this Yuletide season as of Jan. 2, 2016.
The PHO “Iwas Paputok” campaign surveillance data as of 3:30 p.m. of Jan. 2 showed there were 125 cases recorded this 2015-2016 revelry, down from 241 cases recorded for the same period last year.
Of the 125 cases this year, 119 victims were males and only six were females. Their ages ranged from three to 55 years.
Provincial health officer Dr. Anna De Guzman disclosed that firecracker piccolo remained as the top culprit, resulting to 34 injuries.
Meanwhile, there were two victims who sustained gunshot wounds due to stray bullets.
Majority or 95 of the victims were active victims or those who lit the firecrackers themselves while 30 were passive victims. PNA/northboundasia.com
