MANILA – Malacanang welcomed on Tuesday the arrest of Senator Leila de Lima’s former bodyguard and driver Ronnie Dayan.
”We hope that Mr. Dayan’s arrest would lead to the uncovering of truth in the proliferation of drugs in Bilibid,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Assistant Secretary Ana Marie Banaag said in a press statement.
Banaag said Dayan would also play crucial role in finding and pushing the culprits behind the illicit drug trades inside the National Bilibid Prison (NBP).
”We owe this to the future generation of Filipinos to have a drug-free society,” she said.
Dayan was arrested by combined forces of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNA-CIDG) from La Union and Pangasinan at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Sitio Turod, Barangay San Felipe, San Juan, La union.
Dayan went on hiding since he had been tagged as bagman of De Lima in connection with the alleged illicit drug trades inside the NBP.
De Lima earlier confirmed rumors that she was once in a romantic relationship with her married former driver and bodyguard Dayan.
The lady senator, however, denied allegations about her link in the illegal drug trades. Jelly Musico/PNA-northboundasia.com
