Palace declares June 16 non-working holiday in Benguet’s strawberry town

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Malacañang Palace has approved the declaration of special non-working holiday in this capital town tomorrow, June 16 in celebration of the 67th Foundation day of this municipality.

Signed by Acting Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra, Presidential Proclamation 234 said “it is but fitting and proper that the people of La Trinidad be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.”

The town’s celebration of its founding day will start with an ecumenical service followed by a program at the municipal gym. This will be followed by a cultural presentation and the traditional “owik”, a native practice of butchering animal to give thanks to “Kabunyan” (native god) for the blessings the town receives and the abundance of the harvest.

La Trinidad is known as the strawberry capital, salad bowl of the country and host of the rose garden of the Philippines.
