In just almost two months this year, authorities already uprooted burned over P86- million worth of marijuana plants in the highland region, still considered as the country’s biggest producer of the illegal plant.
During the sixth marijuana eradication operation for this year over the weekend, anti-narcotics agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and local police swooped down on 17 plantation sites at sitios Tambor and Kolyang in Tacadang, Kibungan town.
At least 18,375 fully-grown marijuana plants and 5,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves with a total value of P4,275,000 were put to the torch, depriving the market of this illicit plant.
The 17 plantation sites had an area of 3,385 square meters, the PDEA-Cordillera said.
Only last week, at least P45,244,000 worth marijuana plants,
seedlings and dried stalks were also torched down in various sitios in Kibungan and Bakun towns in a six-day eradication operation from February 13 to 18.
No cultivators were, however, caught.
