LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Some PHP2 million worth of marijuana were seized and burned this week by government law enforcers in Kibungan, one of the 13 municipalities of Benguet province.
Anti-narcotics agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Cordillera, PDEA Region 1, local police, and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Cordillera uprooted and burned 8,700 fully grown marijuana plants and 2.4 kilos of marijuana stalks at Sitio Bana, Barangay Tacadang during a two-day eradication operation on March 19 and 20.
PDEA-Cordillera Information Officer Joseph Frederick Calulut said the operation, called “Oplan Bana”, covered five plantation sites.
The anti-illegal drug campaign in Kibungan is part of the government’s thrust in clearing the country of the hemp that is still considered prohibited under present laws. Primo Agatep/PNA – northboundasia.com
