SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Some 6,000 metric tons or 120,000 bags of rice worth P192- million imported from Myanmar have been unloaded from the “MV NMC Galaxy” at the Poro Point seaport here since Monday here.
The Myanmar rice is the last of three shipments, the first of which arrived last July 9, as part of the cereal allocation for the Ilocos region with a total of 560,000 bags or 28,000 metric tons.
The first rice shipment totalled14,000 metric tons or 280,000 came from Thailand aboard the “MV Gazi,” while the second shipment 8,000 metric tons or 160,000 bags also from Thailand MV Ocean Glory.
The rice will be distributed in the four Ilocos provinces: La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur; and in the province of Abra in the Cordillera region.
Rice allocation for the Ilocos and the Cordillera is as follows:Abra-3,200 bags; Benguet-22,000 bags; Ilocos Norte-7,400 bags; Ilocos Sur-13,000; La Union-22,000 bags; East Pangasinan-26,200 bags; West Pangasinan-26,200 bags. Erwin Beleo/NPN-northboundasia.com
