P.5-MILLION WORTH OF ILLEGAL MARIJUANA SEIZED IN LA UNION

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – Some 150 kilos of dried marijuana leaves worth half a million pesos were seized by policemen and anti-narcotics agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency from a suspected drug courier in Barangay Coro-oy, in Santol town last Wednesday.

Adrian Alvariño, PDEA director, identified the suspect as Noelezar T. Molina, 31, a resident of St. Agustin, Maricaban, Pasay City.

Molina was apprehended inside his Isuzu pickup truck bearing plate VEK 161, where 103 rolls of marijuana leaves weighing at least 1-kilo per piece were hidden, according to Alvarino.

It was learned that the suspect was monitored from the time he fetched the illegal goods and was followed until he was cornered along the streets of the said barangay on board an SUV car by police operatives and anti-narcotics agents.

“This is one of the biggest busts of illegal drug this year,” Alvariño said, referring to the bulk of the seized marijuana leaves.

Senior Superintendent Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, commended the police station personnel of Santol together with PDEA and different agencies who exerted efforts for the success of the operation.

Molina is now temporarily detained at the PDEA headquarters here while charges are being prepared against him for violation of RA 9165 or the dangerous drug act that imposes a penalty of lifetime imprisonment and a fine of P500,000.00 to P10-million. ERWIN G. BELEO/northboundasia.com
