SAN FERNANDO, La Union –- The presidential bid of Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas got a big boost Monday as the powerful Ortega clan of La Union province endorsed his candidacy along with his running mate Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo.
Clan patriarch Rep. Victor Ortega announced the endorsement during the 18th cityhood anniversary of San Fernando City.
Roxas was guest of honor and keynote speaker at the “Debutant’s Ball” held at the City Plaza.
Local government officials from the municipalities of Pugo, Bacnotan, San Juan, Balaoan, Santol, Luna, San Gabriel, Sudipen, Bangar and San Fernando City were also present to show their support to the administration candidates.
Ortega said that La Union has always been a LP bastion as the oldest political party of the country took off from the province, in the town of Bauang.
He told the huge crowd at the plaza how the LP was founded in 1945 by Mar’s grandfather and namesake Manuel Roxas along with Elpidio Quirino and Francisco Ortega among others.
“The late President Roxas was a person who had never been tainted by any wrongdoing in government. The same goes to Mar, who, in his stints as head of various government agencies, has had a clean slate,” the lawmaker said.
“Iboboto sya ng mga mamamayan ng La Union sapagkat si Mar ay isang opisyales na marangal, matalino, maginoo, malinis, masipag at mahusay,” Ortega said. Cielito Reganit/PNA / northboundasia.com
