One arrested for slaughtering dogs in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — A septuagenarian from Poblacion, Labrador was arrested in a raid conducted by the police at a town slaughterhouse where dogs were among the animals reportedly being slaughtered at 7:50 a.m. Sunday.

The raid was conducted by joint police elements, acting on the report of officials of the Animal Kingdom Foundation based at Capas, Tarlac, whose members earlier conducted a surveillance on the slaughterhouse.

Arrested by lawmen was Jose Martin, 70, who was caught red-handed cooking meat of a newly slaughtered dog, and from whom lawmen also seized three live dogs, two kitchen knives and one bolo.

Martin will be charged with a case for violation of Republic Act 8485 as amended by RA 10631, an “Act prohibiting cruelty to animals and imposing imprisonment and penalty to offenders”.

The raiders from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office and members of the Labrador Police were accompanied by Allan Pekitpekit, investigator/researcher of the Animal Kingdom Foundation. PNA/
