MANILA -– Old photographs are among the common things people treasure in their lives, especially if these have brought them extraordinary happiness and good luck.

This was the experience shared by an 84-year-old grandmother market vendor from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu when she and now Liberal Party presidential candidate Manuel “Mar” Roxas II happened to meet last week for the second time after more than a decade.

She recalled that she and Roxas met for the first time when the latter was campaigning for a seat in the Senate in 2004.

At that time, Roxas, then popularly called as “Mr. Palengke,” visited a public market in Lapu-Lapu City to disseminate information about his fair trade advocacy and stopped at Lola Constancia’s vegetable stall.

Lola Constancia was then given as remembrance a photo of her and Mar taken near her stall in the market.

During an event dubbed as Liberal Party’s Gathering of Friends in Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City over the weekend, Lola Constancia showed Roxas the old photo.

“Napakabait niya, napakabuti niya sa mga matatanda. Kaya ko siya gusto,” Lola Constancia said, with teary eyes.

“Na-touch ako. Naluha ako noong nakita ko ito. May picture kami ni Lola Constancia Ramos,” Roxas, the Daang Matuwid standard-bearer who admitted he was caught by surprise, said.

”Yung litrato na ‘yan, about 11 years old na at ‘di mo itinapon,” he added.

Now, Roxas will ensure that Lola Constancia will get a new photo of them closer, and together.

“Labs na labs kita, Lola Constancia,” Roxas said.”Maraming salamat at nagkita kami ulit,” Lola Constancia replied with tears of joy. She admitted that she never thought that the public official she met more than 11 years ago will again be her instant visitor. Sammy F. Martin/PNA
