TUGUEGARAO CITY — Police and Army soldiers are now up on their toes in securing a road construction project after six fully-armed suspected New People’s Army rebels tried to burn equipment on Sunday night in Barangay Baybayog, Alcala, Cagayan.
The communist guerrillas torched two backhoes and a compactor, equipment being used for the construction of a farm-to-market road, but they immediately fled after police and Army soldiers spotted them in Baybayog village, a report reaching the 17th Infantry Battalion in Alcala town said.
Law enforcers immediately doused the torched equipment at the site which was a few meters away from the sub-station of the PNP Regional Public Safety Battalion, the report added.
The rebels commandeered an Elf truck owned by the construction company as getaway vehicle.
The truck, torched after it was abandoned, was later found a kilometer away from the site. Villamor Visaya Jr/PNA-northboundasia.com
