Nothing wrong with meeting Bongbong, ex-first lady Imelda Marcos — Aguirre

MANILA — Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Monday said there is nothing wrong with him being spotted with former first lady and now Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos and her son, former senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.,

Aguirre made the statement in response to a social media post by social activist Gang Badoy of Rock Ed Philippines, stating that he was seen in the company of the two Marcos family members and businessman Gregorio “Greggy” Araneta at a restaurant in Greenbelt, Makati two weeks ago.

Araneta is the husband of Mrs. Marcos’ daughter Irene.

Aguirre said that no political matters were discussed during his meeting with the Marcoses, adding it was a chance meeting since he was there to attend the advance showing of the Mamasapano clash movie.

“No dinner was served. We were given spaghetti and pizza a few minutes before the showing. The event is purely social/ entertainment event. So, what is wrong about being seen with the Marcoses? We were not alone, we were with other invited guests,” he added.

“I am one of the invited guests of the producer of the advance showing of the Mamasapano movie. I don’t know if Greggy was there. It’s a very good movie and hundreds were invited. Senator Bongbong was also there. Nothing is wrong about that,” Aguirre said in a text message when sought for comment on the matter.

It will be recalled that Aguirre has said he was one of the many young lawyer and activists who fought the Marcos dictatorship.
