SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) office in Region 1 (Ilocos region) on Monday reiterated there was no fare increase yet for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) in the region.
LTFRB Region 1 Director Nasrudin Talipasan issued this clarification due to complaints of some commuters in the province of Pangasinan reaching their office that some jeepney drivers are already charging higher fares.
Talipasan said a petition to increase PUJ minimum fare in the region from PHP8 to PHP12 is still scheduled for hearing on Nov. 9 at the LTFRB Regional Office 1 here.
“Interested parties are advised to submit their written comment or opposition on or before the said date. They can also attend the public hearing and voice-out their position or comment,” he said in an interview.
Talipasan stressed the filing of the petition does not mean approval of the fare adjustment as the hearing is yet to determine if there is actual and legal basis for its approval.
“Makakaasa po kayo na ang LTFRB ay masusi pong pag-aaralan kung ang kahilingan ay may sapat na basehan at kung magkano ang dapat ang dagdag na pamasahe (Rest assured that LTFRB will look closely on the request for fare hike if it has basis and how much should be added to the fare charges),” the LTFRB Region 1 said in an advisory.
