SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union- An alleged drug pusher who evaded arrest last June and went into hiding surrendered to the police here last Wednesday.

City Police Director Supt. Julius Suriben identified the suspect as Danilo Rivera, Jr.,40, of Barangay Lingsat, whose surrender was facilitated by Barangay Kagawad Samuel Casugay.

Rivera, who was then a Barangay Tanod or guard, was indicted for violation of R.A. 9165 and R.A.10591 but escaped after a search warrant was served at his residence and was consequently placed under arrest last July 13.

Dubbed as Number One in the list of “Top Most Wanted Drug Personalities ” in this city, Rivera has been charged before various courts here for violations of anti-drug laws and issued three warrants of arrest with recommended bails totaling  P560,000.

The surrender of Rivera came following a vow made by Police Provincial Director Supt Angelito Dumangeng to go after drug violators in La Union, a goal under the police project Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council and “Balik-Loob” and “Lambat-Sibat” Programs.

According to Dumangeg, crimes involving prohibited drugs are the most committed offenses in the province. William Jun Garcia/NorthboundPH
