BAGUIO CITY — The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines – Northern Luzon (NGCP-NL) appeals to the public to assist in safeguarding transmission facilities in the Cordillera region.
NGCP-NL Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Officer Lilibeth Gaydowen on Monday urged the public to report any suspicious activities at NGCP transmission lines to help safeguard and secure transmission facilities to ensure safe and continuous power transmission service.
At least 18 NGCP towers in Mindanao were bombed in 2015, with about two towers attacked in the last week of the year.
These resulted in power interruptions, causing two National Power Corporation-owned facilities to be isolated from the Mindanao grid last December alone.
Although there were no recorded threats or bombing incidents affecting NGCP transmission lines in North Luzon, Gaydowen said they were still on heightened alert following the bombing of one of the towers owned and maintained by the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Corp. in Mankayan, Benguet last December.
Gaydowen said they have coordinated with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to help in securing the various transmission facilities of the NGCP, particularly in the Cordillera region where several vital installations are located.
