NGCP cancels scheduled power interruption in parts of Ilocos Norte on October 21

LAOAG CITY — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has cancelled the scheduled power interruption on Friday, October 21, affecting parts of the province due to Typhoon Lawin that threatens Northern Luzon.

Lilibeth Gaydowen, Regional Corporate and Public Affairs Officer said NGCP’s Overall Disaster Command Center (OCMC) will continue round-the-clock operations to monitor the passage of Typhoon Lawin as part of the company’s preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of the typhoon on transmission operations and facilities.

She said preparations included ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damages to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic areas to facilitate immediate restoration work.

NGCP’s Integrated Disaster Action Plan (IDAP) prescribes these and other procedures to ensure the readiness of all power transmission facilities expected to be affected by the passage of the weather disturbance.

Gloomy weather to occasional rain showers persists in parts of the province as it is now poised under Typhoon Signal No. 3.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has already advised pre-emptive evacuation to coastal communities prone to flash flood and landslides.
