National Youth Commission gears up for SK elections

LAOAG CITY -— The National Youth Commission (NYC) is now gearing up for the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections set on October 23, this year.

As part of the preparations, Ilocos Norte-based NYC Commissioner at Large James Caesar Ventura said a mandatory training will now be imposed upon newly-elected SK officials and to would-be members of the National Youth Development Council.

Under the SK Reform law, Ventura said the mandatory training aims to better equip youth officials with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill their duties and responsibilities.

Resource speakers will be invited to facilitate the training backed by the Department of Interior and Local Government, Development Academy of the Philippines and the University of the Philippines College of Public Administration and Governance.

The training is composed of at least five modules featuring the historical development of SK, leadership concepts, decentralization and basic management skills. Though there is no specific schedule yet, the participants shall be able complete the modules prior to assuming their new elective posts, after the election.

Meanwhile, the SK Operations Manual is now being prepared by the NYC ready for reproduction. The SK manual serves as the bible of an SK official where all decisions are based. LGA/
