Motorists advised of one-way traffic at San Fernando- San Juan bypass road

SAN FERNANDO CITY – To fast track rehabilitation of the San Fernando-San Juan bypass road, the Department of Public Works and Highways- La Union Engineering District appeals for utmost cooperation from motorists and the general public.

Effective July 4 (Monday), the San Fernando-San Juan bypass road was opened only for northbound motorists while those plying soundbound are advised to use the Manila North Road.

“There are sections of the road which have been completed already but majority of the 2.4 kilometre bypass road still needs to be fast tracked to meet its completion by the end of September or early October,” Emil Ganaden, DPWH District Engineer, said.

He added: “These are all temporary, after all the road construction work, we assure the public that there will be an ease and smooth flow of traffic in said areas.”

To avoid heavy traffic in the central business district, southbound motorists could enter Pagdaraoan-Biday road heading to CSI mall then to the bypass road and to make an exit at the intersection in Barangay Sevilla, south of San Fernando City.

Ganaden assured the general public that safety precaution devices will be in place like traffic bollards or vertical posts with reflective tape and other road warning signs to prevent road accidents.

He likewise reiterated his appeal to residents and motorists to avoid encroaching along national roads especially using the widened lanes and road shoulders as parking area.

Sections 23 of the Revised Philippine Highway Act prohibits the use of public highways, bridge, wharf or trails to any private use or obstruction in any manner.

Apart from the rehabilitation of the bypass road, ongoing road works under the First Engineering District Office are the Bacnotan-Luna provincial road and parts of Bangar provincial road. Joanna Diaz Sabado/PIA/
