Motorcycle Rider Dies in La Union mishap

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — A motorcycle driver was killed and his two companions, also riding on the same vehicle, were hurt and in critical condition after their vehicle collided head on with a van along the highway in Barangay Pagdalagan, San Fernando City, Friday midnight.

According to a police report, the vehicular accident involved a public utility bus owned by Partas Trans Co. Inc., driven by Robert Acena, Jr., 27, of Cusil West, Bangued, Abra; a Hyundai Starex van driven by Valerio Andres, 52, of Bagan Campo, Candon City, Ilocos Sur;and a Honda XRM motorcycle with no plate number, boarded by Jay-r Andrada, 28, and Glen Gomez, 14, both of Barangay Tanquigan of this city and another unidentified person.

Investigator PO3 Ananias Ramos reported that the van was traversing the highway in a south direction and turned left at the instance of the guard on duty of Oasis Hotel. The van was hit by the northbound motorcycle and its driver –the unidentified person–was thrown out of his vehicle and landed underneath the southbound bus.

The motorcycle riders were rushed by rescuers from Provincial Rescue and City Health Office at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center for medical treatment, but the unidentified person was pronounced dead-on-arrival, while the other riders were found positive for alcoholic drinks and were confined at the hospital for further treatment.

Acena and Andres were found negative for alcoholic drinks by a certain Dr. Monico of the San Fernando City Health Office. They are now under the custody of the San Fernando City Police for further investigation. Northbound Philippines News Online
