Microsoft taps Filipino digital company for ‘Gears of War 4’

MANILA — Microsoft’s first-party studio, The Coalition, tapped a Filipino digital solution studio to create the 3D art assets of its newly launched game, “Gears of War 4” for Xbox and Windows.

Synergy 88 Digital Inc. was selected as a development partner in creating the environments of “Gears of War 4”.

Officially launched globally last Oct. 11, “Gears of War 4” is the newest chapter in the Gears of War franchise.

The quality of work delivered by Synergy 88 Digital was world-class and the company has delivered the output on time when The Coalition needed it, according to Walter de Torres, The Coalition’s director of production.

In a press conference on Friday, a representative of the Board of Investments (BOI) shared that de Torres is a Filipino.

The representative said de Torres went to the Philippines to see the competencies of Synergy 88 Digital.

The BOI has been promoting the country as an investment destination of choice in the game development and animation industry to the international gaming industry since 2014.

It was during an international conference where BOI had mounted a Philippine booth that Synergy met Microsoft.

”With the steady economy growth and the continued public and private support, we are confident that the industry will remain on its positive growth path in the years ahead,” said Angelica Cayas, director of international investments promotion service, BOI.

Meanwhile, six people from synergy were involved in the project with The Coalition.

”Our investment in hardware and software, and in human resource is paying off,” remarked Jackeline Chua, Synergy 88 managing director and co-founder.
