MANILA — The newly-approved education and training courses for electro-technical officers (ETOs) will be out soon, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) announced.
The latter is one of the requirements sought by Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) 2010 Manila Amendments.
“It’s now undergoing pilot testing,” MARINA STCW Office spokesperson Chief Mate Mike Esplago said.
Practicing electricians however, need not worry on this provision as STCW Circular No. 2015-13 provides for a transitory provision with the following paragraph:
“Seafarers may be considered to have met the requirements of this circular if they have served in a relevant capacity on board a ship for a period of not less than 12 months within the last 60 months prior to the effectivity of this Circular…” it added.
This refers to ships with 750kW propulsion or more. PNA
