BAUANG, La Union -– A 31-year-old man from Baguio City drowned while swimming along the seashore of Barangay Baccuit Sur here on Monday.
Chief Inspector Joel Lagto, the town’s police chief, said the victim, identified as Joshua Fernandez, was having a drinking session together with three other companions before he decided to go swimming.
While swimming, the victim was allegedly hit by strong waves and was swept to a deep portion of the sea until he drowned.
His companions tried to save the victim by rushing him to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center in San Fernando City but was declared dead on arrival.
The police said the strong waves were caused by typhoon “Karen” which had just exited to the West Philippine Sea. Jun Elias – northboundasia.com
