CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A cadaver of a male person was found inside an abandoned sports utility vehicle (SUV) along Orodio road in Sitio Killo, Barangay Corro-oy, Santol, La Union Sunday morning.
Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado Jr., La Union police information officer, quoting Santol police chief Senior Inspector Felipe Ruiz, Jr., identified the victim as Reynard Mostoles, a resident of Nagrebcan, Luna town.
Investigation showed that a certain barangay kagawad, Aurelio Badua, reported to Santol police station a suspicious abandoned vehicle, a black Toyota with bearing conduction sticker number VX 002 at about 7:00 a.m.
Badua’s colleagues from Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) were conducting road clearing along the said road when they noticed the vehicle, prompting the local official to seek police assistance.
Responding policemen immediately came to the area. They noticed blood dripping from inside the vehicle and when they looked closer they saw something wrapped in sack lying on the vehicle’s floor, so they cordon off the said place and sought assistance from personnel of Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO).
SOCO disclosed that the dead body was wrapped in two sacks, and sustained a gunshot wound on the right cheek. No fired cartridge and bullet were recovered at the crime scene.
Authorities believed that the victim was not killed in the area.
Ordinado also said that the vehicle was registered under the name of Cesar Tanguli Cabungcal of 65608 Villa Fojas St., Gagalingan, Tondo, Manila.
La Union police are now coordinating with their Manila counterparts for further investigation that may lead to the identity of the owner of the registered vehicle. Erwin Beleo/NPN-northboundasia.com
