Majority of villages in Ilocos town ‘drug-free’

LAOAG CITY —In Pinili town, about 40 kilometers from this city, at least 17 out of the 25 villages have been declared free from illegal drugs.

Chief Inspector Gerardo Antonio, Pinili police chief, confirmed this Thursday during the ongoing assessment and management of drug users held at the rural health clinic here, which will last until May 25.

Intended for drug surrenderees, the assessment and screening process is being spearheaded by the Department of Health in collaboration with the Philippine National Police and local government officials nationwide.

Meant to determine the appropriate intervention program for each surrenderee, detailed information are gathered from each of them as basis in the preparation of a treatment plan.

Backing the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, Antonio said local law enforcers have intensified their efforts to clear the town’s villages from illegal drugs.

Antonio said they are focusing on the remaining eight barangays in the town and hopefully declare them as “drug-free” the soonest possible time. LGA/PNA-northboundasia.com
