Magnitude 5.1 quake jolts Ilocos

VIGAN CITY — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattled the province of Ilocos Sur  at 3:06 p.m. Thursday, state seismologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the quake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 25 km. and its epicenter was traced at 35 kilometers northwest of Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur.

The tremor was felt at Intensity 5 in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Intensity 4 Magsingal, Ilocos Sur & Bangued, Abra; Intensity 3 in Pasuquin, Solsona & Carasi, Ilocos Norte; Vigan City and Santa, Ilocos Sur; Tuguegarao, Cagayan; Flora, Apayao; and Intensity 2 in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur; & Kapangan, Benguet.

Philvocs said that there was no damages reported from the quake but aftershocks were expected. Northbound Philippines News
