RAMON, Isabela — The Magat Dam in Isabela opened seven gates with 4,630-cubic-meter-per-second water releases or a twenty-meter-high total opening on Monday, causing floods in at least 15 towns and cities in the province and in Cagayan.
The dam elevation has breached the 193-meter maximum level with 193.65-meter elevation on Monday so “we released more water since Sunday,” according to Engr. Wilfredo Gloria, National Irrigation Administration-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System operations manager.
In Cagayan, 10 villages have been flooded in Tuguegarao City, the region’s catch basin, as 1,729 families or 6,678 people were affected in Cagayan province, provincial disaster risk-reduction management office said.
The civil defense office has also reported a halted traffic flow along Cadcadir, Abulug-Cabugao, Nagtipunan, Quirino-Aurora Province and Cagayan-Apayao roads due to soil erosions.(By Villamor Visaya/PNA)
