MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has urged anew buses plying provincial routes during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting to secure special permits from Nov 17 to 20.
These buses will be given special permits so that more passengers can spend their vacation outside the city during APEC week as several offices will call it a no-work week while schools have already suspended classes.
Special permits are only given to applicants who comply with the board’s requirements, including safety rules.
The Board meanwhile reminded provincial bus drivers and operators not to take advantage of their special permits.
Bus drivers and operators are required to return to their respective routes as soon as the validity of the special permits expire.
LTFRB will penalize offenders with a fine of Php1-million. They will also be required to surrender the license plates of their units.
These penalties fall under the LTFRB-LTO Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-01 on buses operating outside of their routes. Azer N. Parrocha/PNA
