LPG FACILITY FIRE IN CALACA, BATANGAS UNDER INVESTIGATION — DOE

MANILA — The Department of Energy (DOE) on Sunday reported the fire from a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) facility of South Pacific Inc. in Calaca, Batangas is still under investigation.

“There were initial communications, but we cannot make statements as of the moment as the investigation on the cause is still ongoing,” the department said late Sunday.

The DOE assured it will provide an update after obtaining the details.

Reports said the facility, which could process 7,000-10,000 metric tons, is under commissioning.

The testing and commissioning stage is required for a facility to proceed to commercial operations.

As of 7:30 p.m., the fire in the area was not yet contained.

The local government of Calaca, Batangas already declared a state of emergency due to the fire. PNA/northboundasia.com
