Low-lying areas in 2 Bataan towns remain flooded

HERMOSA, Bataan — Some low-lying villages in the towns of Hermosa and Dinalupihan on Monday remain submerged in floods as the southwest monsoon continues to bring rains in the province.

Accoording to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), five barangays in Dinalupihan, namely Culis, Pulo, Daungan, Balsik and Almacen remained under floods having a depth of up to six feet.

So far, the only mode of transportation which can be used in flood-prone Almacen is fishing banca.

The PDRRMO said water overflowed Saturday from the big Almacen River that caused flooding in the village.

At present, there are still 36 families in the affected villages staying in various evacuation centers here.

In Dinalupihan, Mayor Angela Garcia said that portions of barangays Sta. Isabel, Mabini Extension and Padre Dandan are still submerged in knee-deep floods.

Garcia said they are undertaking sandbagging operations in major dikes like in Barangay Torres where water overflowed.

As of now, intermittent light to moderate rains are being experienced in this province. PNA/northboundasia.com
