LOVE AND AFFECTION: AN ADVICE TO MARRIED ILOCOS COPS

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – “Never communicate with hate; instead show love and affection to your partners and families.”

Thus runs the advice of Chief Superintendent Ericson Velasquez, the head of the Ilocos Region police force, to all married policemen.

Velasquez and his wife Marilou led 100 police couples in renewing their vows during the Marriage Enrichment Seminar held at the Diego Silang Hall of the La Union Provincial Capitol here the other day.

A brainchild of the wife of the Chief PNP Police Director General Ricardo Marquez, Luzviminda, the seminar was geared towards making police officers family and spiritually- oriented.

Velasquez said the activity aimed to boost and enrich the marital relationship of police personnel with their spouses. The end-purpose, he said, is to build God-centered families that will guard their spiritual convictions and moral reputations aside from the promotion of the sanctity of marriage.

He told his audience: “We need to respect each other and learn our individual differences; internalize the art of communication, the manner on how we communicate with our spouse is necessary. We should be in constant communication. In trying times and difficulties, we should remember to take time and cool down before interacting with our family.”

Speakers during the activity were Mrs. Marquez, Inocencia Gunnacao and Analiza Franco, adviser, president and member of the board of trustees of PNP Officers’s Ladies Club, respectively.

The Eucharistic Mass and renewal of vows were officiated by Rev. Fr. Heintje Cañete, Chief of the Regional Chaplain Service 1. JUN ELIAS/NorthboundPH
