Local govt taking measures to prevent ‘cocolisap’ spread in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Zamboanga City government, through the city agriculturist office, is undertaking various pest management and control measures to prevent the spread of the coconut scale insect or ‘cocolisap’, which was discovered in several coconut trees in two barangays here.

City agriculturist Diosdado Palacat said they have activated the City Crop Protection Quick Response Team (QRT) to assess the damage caused by the cocolisap in Barangays Bunguiao and Victoria and conduct rapid treatment to check the infestation.

Palacat said they have to act immediately to contain as early as possible the cocolisap infestation before it reaches an alarming level.

He said they are working closely with the Department of Agriculture (DA), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and other concerned agencies to control and prevent the spread of the infestation.

The agriculture department is crafting strategies to prevent the spread of the cocolisap to the other parts of the city. PNA-northboundasia.com
