LAWMAKERS PUSH NAT’L ROAD TRIKE BAN LAW ENFORCEMENT IN NUEVA VIZCAYA

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — Lawmakers here are now seeking the assistance of the Philippine National Police, Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG) on the enforcement of the ordinance prohibiting the use of tricycles on the major lanes of the national highway from Bayombong to Solano towns.

Board member Nestor Sevillena said the ordinance seeks to prevent road accidents caused by tricycles and fast moving vehicles.

“This ordinance can also be replicated by other municipalities with national roads within their jurisdiction,” he said.

The push came as the PNP reported that several consultations have been made with the tricycle associations and organizations in the towns of Solano and Bayombong.

The move serves as a pre-implementation phase of the ordinance banning tricycles in using the national highway lanes intended for fast moving vehicles.

The trike ban which is expected to be in full swing in January 2016 orders tricycles to use the Road Right of Way (RRW) constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The trike ban also prohibits the parking of vehicles along the RRWs to provide transport space for tricycles.Provincial officials said the measure is expected to prevent the occurrence of road accidents along the national highway.

In a recent report, the PNP said most number of accidents were attributed to reckless imprudence involving tricycles and four wheel vehicles or tricycles and villagers. PNA
