ILOCOS NORTE POLICE DIRECTOR RELIEVED

LAOAG CITY — Hours following the implementation of election gun ban, the Police Provincial Director at Camp Valentin S. Juan in this city was relieved on Sunday for still undisclosed reason.

Sr. Supt. Albert Ocon served as the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office for barely nine months.

Ocon said in a media interview that his relief came as a surprise as he did not receive any prior notice from his superiors.

To date, the relieved provincial police commander has been temporarily assigned with the Police Regional Office I based in San Fernando City, La Union.

On Monday, Sr. Supt. Jose Melencio Corpuz Nartatez Jr. took over as the new officer-in-charge as he met with the personnel of the Ilocos Norte PNP for proper briefing and smooth transition of new leadership.

The Commission on Elections imposed the gun ban during election period from Jan. 10 to June 8 as part of the effort to ensure peaceful, orderly and honest presidential and local elections.

Police checkpoints have been placed in strategic locations nationwide since 12 a.m. Sunday as part of the gun ban’s implementation. PNA / northboundasia.com
