LAOAG CITY — At least 52 athletic scholars in Batac and Laoag cities of Ilocos Norte are set to receive their stipend on September 4.
Matilde Neri of the Provincial Education Office, confirmed this on Friday as they are now preparing for the distribution to be led by Senior Provincial Board Member Matthew Joseph Manatoc, who initiated this special scholarship program of the Ilocos Norte government.
Each scholar is entitled to Php 1,000 as uniform allowance and Php 500 per month throughout the first semester.
Manotoc hopes that by supporting these scholars, Ilocos Norte could produce more athletes “to compete and excel in the different sports events like the Region One Athletic Association meet, and even Palarong Pambansa.”
Manotoc is the main author of an ordinance creating the Summer Youth Sports Program in the province that aims to instill discipline, proper hygiene, as well as talent development among Ilocano youths. PNA-northboundasia.com
