BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — Typhoon “Lando” (international name: Koppu) destroyed more than PHP183 million worth of infrastructure and agricultural crops and left one person dead and another still missing.
Evaliza Agamata, provincial disaster risk reduction management officer said Renay Tullao, 6, of Barangay Villaluz in Bambang town is still missing while another unidentified helper of a trailer truck in Barangay Tactac in Sta. Fe town died after they were carried away by rampaging floodwaters.
She said “Lando” affected 48 barangays in the towns of Bambang, Dupax del Sur, Dupax del Norte, Kasibu, Ambaguio and Alfonso Castaneda with more than 1,300 families or more than 7,000 persons.
The typhoon’s damage to infrastructure was initially recorded at more than PHP68 million and more than PHP114 million in agriculture.
Landslides also blocked commuters coming in and out of the province particularly in barangay Tactac in Sta. Fe town and in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija.
“Our main road going to Metro Manila is still blocked by landslides due to continuing rains. Some of these commuters were given relief food assistance,” she said.
Agamata said the the typhoon’s damage to agriculture and infrastructure projects is expected to increase as reports from Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices (MDRRMO) are being submitted.(Ben Moses Ebreo/PNA)
