SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A 51-year old man listed as among the illegal drug personalities here was shot dead while his male companion was seriously wounded in a gun attack by unidentified assailants at their residence in Barangay Santiago Sur last Thursday night.
Superintendent Bryant Demot, the city police chief, identified the fatality as Ferdinand Alvarez while his companion as Jomar Raagas.
Demot said Ferdinand surrendered to police recently after his name were listed in the drug watch list in San Fernando City Police and has been a subject of search warrant for violation of RA 9165 and arrested but temporarily released after paying bail.
Alvarez sustained six gunshot wounds on his back and one on his arm causing his immediate death while Raagas was injured on his legs.
Witnesses said three unidentified suspects wearing bonnets barged into the house of the victims and shot them several times with alleged caliber 45 pistols.
Police said the motive could be related to the illegal drug trade.
Alvarez and Raagas were the latest victims of the war on illegal drugs here. On Monday, the chairman of Barangay Ilocanos Norte here and his nephew were gunned down inside their house by unidentified suspects.
Those killed were barangay captain Audie Flores, 52, and nephew Medelito Flores, 35, both residents of Ilocanos Norte. Audie’s live-in partner Renalyn Munar, 34, suffered gun shot wounds and is undergoing treatment at a local hsopital.port.
Audie was the No. 1 in the list of illegal drug personalities in La Union while his partner is No. 8 in the city level. The couple and his nephew surrendered recently to authorities but did not abandon their illegal activities, according to police.
