La Union Cop Nabbed For Double Murder


SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A police officer who has been the subject of a manhunt for killing his two drinking buddies and wounding another more than a week ago was arrested by personnel of the city police station here yesterday.


Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado Jr, La Union police information officer, identified the policeman as PO1 Ricardo Rillo, 44, a resident of Barangay Santiago Sur this city.

Rillo, who was assigned at the ‘holding and accounting unit’ of the La Union police in Camp Diego Silang, was arrested based on warrants issued by Judge Caroline Rojas-Jaucian of the Regional Trial Court Branch 26 here for two counts of murder and attempted murder.

It can be recalled that on the night of May 17, Rillo gunned down Willie Fernando, 48, and Joseph Balanag, both residents of Barangay Santiago Sur, during a heated argument while they were having drinking spree.

Fernando and Balanag were both declared dead on the spot due to gunshot wounds on their bodies.

Willie’s younger brother, Christian Fernando, 23, the injured victim, survived after he was brought for treatment at the Ilocos Training Regional Medical Center.

Witnesses said that the group was having drinking spree around 6:00 p.m. until several hours when a heated argument ensued between the suspect and the victims.

The arguments stopped when Christian pacified them. However, the suspect went home while the victims continued their drinking spree.

Around 8:45 p.m. Rillo returned to the drinking session area, and allegedly shot the victims multiple times and fled on foot after the incident.
