SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — For the second time, this city’s chief executive was recognized by an international award-giving body, as one of the country’s most outstanding mayors in the field of public service.
Mayor Pablo C. Ortega received the Most Outstanding Mayor of the Philippines Award for 2016 bestowed by Superbrand Marketing International, Inc. last March 17 at The City Club in Makati City. He bagged the in 2014.
“I am very humbled by this award. It gives me the strength and courage to continue and work harder not only for the city and the people of the Province of La Union,” Ortega said, adding that his heart belongs to public service.
Ortega received the award along with 19 mayors in the country that included his fellow Ilocano executive Chevylle V. Fariñas of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
Ortega has been cited for his programs that include the implementation of the Performance Governance System (PGS) in the city government which resulted to the conferment of the Hall of Fame Balance Scorecard International Award; three ISO certifications and implementation of the Citizen’s Charter that improved internal processes and efficiency in frontline public services; and assistance in the development of Barangay infrastructures and other income-generating activities.
As his response to environment problems and protection, he established the city’s Engineered Sanitary Landfill (ESL) facility, Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), Septage Treatment Facility, Eco-Tank Project, Market Wastewater Facility.
Last January, Ortega’s administration broke ground for the construction of Auxiliary Wet Market of the city. He also plans to adopt health and wellness program as his battlecry in public service.
