SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Dec. 29 -– The Provincial Government and the City Government will hold a simple but meaningful ceremony when this city joins the nation in observing the martyrdom of national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal tomorrow.
The Rizal Day commemoration, with theme, “Dangal ng Pilipino Gabay sa Pagbabago,” will be led by Governor Manuel Ortega and Mayor Pablo C. Ortega at the Rizal Shrine in front of City Hall.
Hazel Flores, city information officer, said the event will start with a flag- raising ceremony in the morning to be followed by
wreath-laying at the foot of the Rizal monument by provincial and city officials including members of the CSF Chapter of Free Accepted Masons of the Philippines, Union Lodge No. 70, Siete Martirez #177 and Order of Demolay.
Engineer Joseph A. Dumuk, retired national government employee, will read Mi Ultimo Adios or “My Last Farewell” followed by the singing of “Pilipinas Kong Mahal”.
Governor Ortega and Mayor Ortega will give their respective commemorative messages.
It will be recalled that Rizal was executed by a guardia civil firing squad at the then Bagumbayan Field (now Luneta) on December 29, 1896 after the Spanish military court found him guilty of rebellion, sedition and conspiracy.
The activity here is jointly organized by the provincial and city governments with the participation of local multi-sectoral groups. VA/northboundasia.com
