KOREAN DROWNS IN LA UNION

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A search and rescue team recovered Friday the body of one of two male Korean teenagers who went swimming in the beach water
of Barangay Pugo in Bauang town.

Chief Inspector Artemio Infante, La Union police information officer, identified the victim as Tae Gyu Kim, 16. He has been missing since late Wednesday.

Earlier, the victim’s companion, Dge Hee Kang, 14, was rescued alive and is under observation at a hospital in San Fernando City.

Both Koreans are members of Bangju Mission, a Christian group, and residing in Barangay Pugo.

Infante said that the incident happened on Wednesday when a group of missionary students including Gyu Kim and Hee Kang went on a picnic on the Pugo beach. Hee Kang and the victim went swimming in the late afternoon near the shore when they were swept away by strong undercurrent.

The Provincial Risk Reduction Management Council said that the body of Gyu Kim was taken to the Joces Funeral Parlor in Bauang. ERWIN G. BELEO / northboundasia.com
