MANILA — Kerwin Espinosa, the alleged big-time drug lord of Eastern Visayas, is expected to return to the country on Thursday, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said on Monday.
In a press conference at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, Dela Rosa said AIDG (Anti-Illegal Drugs Group) Director Senior Supt. Albert Ignacio Ferro has already left for the United Arab Emirates to personally fetch Espinosa, who is currently under the custody of Abu Dhabi authorities.
Dela Rosa said that Espinosa would be brought to the PNP Custodial Center upon his return.
The PNP chief assured that Espinosa would not suffer the same fate that befell his father, Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. who was killed inside his cell at the Baybay, Leyte sub-provincial jail last Nov. 5.
Meanwhile, Dela Rosa said he was leaving it to the discretion of the Department of Justice (DOJ) whether to place Espinosa under the Witness Protection Program (WPP). Perfecto Raymundo/PNA-northboundasia.com
