TABUK CITY, Kalinga – – Governor Jocel Baac urged law enforcers, local government units officials, concerned national agencies, and the community to work together to stamp out the illegal drugs menace besetting their respective areas.
“It should not only be a reduction but total eradication of the problem through a concerted effort and serious implementation of the directives of President Duterte,” Baac stressed during a special ‘Kapehan,’ a radio broadcast. “There must be a stop to the illegal drugs menace until December 31 of this year.”
“We will not only apprehend those listed by the Philippine National Police or deal with those who surrendered but we should exert more efforts on arresting pushers,” Baac said. ” We have to control the source in order to cut the supply chain’.
Mayer Adong, provincial director of the Department of Interior and Local Government, who presented Sulong Pilipinas during the Kapehan said all local chief executives who attended the summit agreed to meet the national target of reducing drug pushers, users and supply of prohibited drugs.
In his presentation, it twas learned that his agency had committed a performance target of 100 percent reduction in number of illegal drug users by end of 2016. There are 1,526 surrenderees – 135 pushers and 1,391 users, Adong said, citing PNP report.
In another development, two alleged illegal drugs pushers were arrested in their homes by police operatives in Bangar, La Union and San Fernando City last Wednesday.
Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado, Jr., La Union Police Information Officer, identified the suspects as Ronaldo M. Noto, 32, laborer, of Barangay Quintarong in Bangar; and Michel O. Domingo of Barangay Lingsat, San Fernando City.
Confiscated from Noto were two sachets containing the banned methampethamine hydrochloride or shabu, a sachet of dried marijuana leaves, and several drug paraphernalia. Six sachets of shabu including several drug paraphernalia were found in Domingo’s possession.
Noto and Domingo will be charged for violation of R.A. 9165 or the Illegal drugs act based on the warrants issued, respectively, by Judge Manuel Aquino, RTC Branch in Balaoan town; and Judge Imelda P. Cosalan, MTC Branch, San Fernando City. THOM PICAÑA & ERWIN BELEO/northboundasia.com
