Isabela town pushes organic vegetable farming

ECHAGUE, Isabela — The local government unit of Echague is pushing for organic farming among the residents in the town as livelihood and for pursuing good nutrition and health.

Mayor Francis Faustino Dy said the municipal government is presently producing vegetable seedlings to be distributed to indigent families in the town for planting in their backyards.

He said planting vegetables even in residents’ backyard is seen as one of the solutions to the problem of malnutrition and poverty among Echaguenos especially the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Dy said there are almost 2,000 Echaguenos who are beneficiaries of the 4Ps and need assistance from the municipal government to be productive and healthy.

The town wants to promote organic vegetable farming so that every Echagueno will have food that is healthy and safe to eat and to become the center of organic farming in the whole province.
