Isabela exec wants all LGUs to establish own evacuation centers

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — The local chief executive of Isabela has expressed desire for every local government unit in Isabela to establish own evacuation centers to house the future victims of disasters.

Gov. Faustino G. Dy III said each local government unit shall have one evacuation center with complete facilities to house the affected families and refrain the use of schools as evacuation centers.

He made the announcement during the inauguration of the newly-completed Isabela Multi-Purpose Evacuation center at the capitol compound in July 27, 2016.

Dy said schools are for learning purposes and putting evacuees in schools will interrupt the classes of pupils who are supposed to use the facilities.

He said each LGU has its own calamity fund and part of it can be utilized to construct a typhoon-proof evacuation center.

“LGUs shall prioritize the construction of typhoon-proof evacuation centers to accommodate evacuees,” Dy said.

He said the province remains in its objective of zero casualty everytime there are calamities and want that each LGU be prompt in disaster preparedness activities to attain such objective. PNA/
