Intelligence chief of Alaminos, Laguna dead in ambush

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Calamba City — The chief intelligence officer of Alaminos, Laguna was killed in an ambush in the said town late Sunday afternoon while two of his companions escaped unhurt.

Laguna Provincial Police Director Senior Superintendent Cecilio Ison said PO3 Eduardo Cruz and two others were conducting surveillance operation when they were fired upon by undetermined suspects at Del Pilar St. Barangay 1, Poblacion, Alaminos.

Cruz sustained gunshot wounds in his chest and was declared dead on arrival at the San Pablo City Medical Center.

The suspects tried to flee from the crime site but were flagged down at a checkpoint.

Ison identified the suspects as Airman 2nd Class Lester Catungal of Philippine Air Force (PAF), Jonald Luna, former member of the Philippine Marines, and Jim Noel Opena, who remains at large.
